AT THE MOVIES: Wonka!

So I went to see Wonka because I loved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and saw both versions - the OG with Johnny Depp and the new one with Timothee Chalamet.

I wonder if it was only me or if other people were also bothered that the new story about Wonka’s childhood is so different from the old versions.

I wondered why the screenwriters didn’t develop the original back story of Wonka and had to invent a totally new story that creates two narratives of Wonka’s life story?

In other films I’ve seen that had prequels - including most of the superhero movies that have a lot of sequels and prequels - in the new movies they usually don’t erase the old storyline but build on it and develop it so the fans can connect to the old story they knew but learn new details.

What do you all think about it? Did the fact they totally changed the old story bother you?

I’ve got to say that while I loved the actor in Wonka - in my opinion the storyline in old Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was so much better .

Also, I wondered which one of the actors playing WONKA you all loved the best? I can’t choose between Timothee Chalamet and Johnny Depp who played Wonka with such depth.
